Alabama women's basketball picks up two transfers, including Georgia transfer Sarah Ashlee Barker

Alabama women's basketball picked up two transfers on Monday, including one from the SEC.

Sarah Ashlee Barker, daughter of former Alabama football quarterback Jay Barker and sister of former Crimson Tide quarterback and current Alabama football graduate assistant Braxton Barker, committed to the Crimson Tide following two seasons at Georgia.

The junior guard from Birmingham was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2021 and averaged 7.7 points for the Bulldogs last season.

“We are so proud and excited to welcome Sarah Ashlee Barker home to Alabama!," coach Kristy Curry said in a statement. "She has the two most important qualities that we look for in a player, that you can't coach, and that is heart and hustle. Those attributes truly make her special as a competitor and a teammate. She will bring such valuable SEC experience to our program, which will translate to her making an immediate impact within every aspect of our program."

North Dakota State forward Ryan Cobbins also committed to the Crimson Tide on Monday. Cobbins started all 29 games for the Bison this season, scoring 11.1 points and grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game. In her North Dakota State career, she's started 82 games in three seasons.

“We are really excited to welcome Ryan into our family," Curry said. "She is a person of high character that will impact our program on and off the court. As a player, she has a very versatile skill set being able to score the basketball at all three levels and will fit into our system right away."

The two will add depth to a team that lost four players to the transfer portal this season. Alabama will also look to the duo to add more scoring as the Crimson Tide looks to return to the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama made it to the Elite Eight round of the WNIT this season.
