Alameda Co. Supervisor District 1: Election Results

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Alameda County voters appear to have decided they want Dublin Mayor David Haubert to take the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, District 1 seat.

As of 11 p.m. with all 109 precincts reporting, Haubert led with 53 percent of the vote (33,021 votes), while Fremont City Councilmember Vinnie Bacon had received 47 percent of the vote (29,064 votes).

The district encompasses Dublin, Livermore, most of Fremont, part of Sunol and most of the unincorporated Livermore-Amador Valley. The District 1 seat is being vacated by retiring Supervisor Scott Haggerty, who has served six terms since he was first elected to the seat in 1996.

Elections officials described a peaceful and efficient day at the polls Tuesday, as Election Day 2020 has progressed smoothly in the Bay Area's nine counties.

Alameda County reported Monday about 581,445 people cast votes before Election Day, which is 60.2 percent of its registered voters.

"Things are going well," said Tim Dupuis, Alameda County's registrar. "A little more in-person voting than we saw over the weekend. It still looks like the majority of the votes are being dropped off as vote-by-mail."

Turnout for in-person voting is down, thanks to the massive push for early and mail-in voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The night before Election Day, more than 2.7 million Bay Area voters had already cast ballots. Statewide, more than 11.2 million of California's more than 21 million registered voters had already voted. Nationwide, the number was approaching 100 million by Monday evening - almost 70% of the 136.5 million people who voted in 2016.
