Alaska USA, Federal Credit Union officials has announced that the banking institution will change its name to Global Credit Union this spring.

The credit union’s name change, which will come on April 3, is being made to reflect better its worldwide reach and commitment to its members across the globe, company officials said.

There are five Alaska USA branches across the Victor Valley, including two in Apple Valley and Victorville and one in Hesperia.

After the name change, the credit union will continue to operate under the current leadership, and its headquarters will remain in Anchorage.

The current Board of Directors and executive management, including President and CEO Geoff Lundfelt, will also remain in leadership of Global Credit Union.

Alaska USA members live in all 50 states and more than 20 foreign countries. Additionally, the new name also connects to a recent update to the credit union’s charter that allows anyone working in the U.S. Department of Defense – anywhere in the world – to join the credit union.

Global Credit Union members across the globe will still have access to account information and their normal products and services, and all existing cards, checks, and credentials for account access will not be impacted.

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative with a full range of financial services, including checking and savings accounts, consumer loans, real estate loans, mortgage loans, credit cards, business services, and personal insurance.

Alaska USA now operates 76 branches in Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Washington, and Italy, with more than 2,200 employees dedicated to serving more than 750,000 members.

This is not the first time the credit union has changed its name since its inception in 1948. Each change has reflected the credit union’s growing number of members.

“As this name change is implemented, our members will continue to receive the products and professional service they have come to know and expect from us,” said Lundfelt. “Our members will also continue to see us in the community as we interact, engage, and invest in making our communities a better place to live, work and play. We are excited to welcome this new chapter, and we look forward to reinforcing our commitment to our current members and embracing prospective members as we transition to the new name.”

Members will start to see communications, updated materials, and additional operational information in the coming weeks as the name change is rolled out.
