Albany Area Schools, ROCORI School District close schools Friday, citing weather

ROCORI School District and Albany Area Schools are closed Friday due to weather.

Both districts cited weather in its closing decisions. Albany Area Schools also said, in a post to Facebook, that the closure was in part due to "a significant number of staff and student COVID related absences." It is an eLearning day for Albany students.

Also closed or canceled for Friday are Albany Area Schools' Kids Company, Preschool Camp and Wrap-Around Care; preschool and preschool screening; all Community Ed activities; Blattner Energy Community Center; and junior high activities. Decisions about high school activities will be made Friday, the post said.

ROCORI Schools are closed.

St. Cloud is expected to miss the brunt of a winter storm Friday that had the National Weather Service issuing a winter storm warning for parts of western and southwestern Minnesota. The St. Cloud Area is expected to receive between 2 and 4 inches of snow.

Sports events being postponed, canceled due to weather

Friday's weather has caused some postponements and cancellations for many St. Cloud-area high school sporting events.

The Paynesville wrestling invitational has been canceled that was supposed to feature many teams including Sartell. Also, the girls basketball game between ROCORI and Sauk Rapids-Rice has been rescheduled to Feb. 7.

ROCORI's wrestling dual against Watertown-Mayer has been postponed and the River Lakes boys hockey game against Brainerd has also been postponed.

The Sauk Rapids-Rice boys basketball game against Maple Grove has had a time change from 8 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., but the game is currently still scheduled to play on Friday night.
