Albany man accused of group Organized Crime transfers to Taylor County, bonds total more than $600k
TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Albany man accused of group organized criminal activity has been transferred from the Haskell County Jail to Taylor County where he awaits a trial.
According to court documents, Michael Cody was one in a group of four men who were accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of weapons from an Abilene Army surplus store in 2022.
Court documents also include that the Abilene Police Department received a video of Cody’s group moments before a break-in at the surplus story in August 2022, where multiple firearms including an assault rifle were stolen. With a search warrant, the firearms were found in Cody’s home. His phone was also searched, finding a Google inquiry to the surplus store and a specific rifle stolen.
Upon his initial arrest, Cody allegedly wrote a letter from jail to his partners in crime with advice on where and where not to commit a break-in.
Cody’s transfer to the Taylor County Jail went through on Wednesday. He faces the following charges:

– Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, 2020
– Burglary of Habitation, 2020
– Engagement in Organized Criminal Activity, 2022
– Aggravated Assault, 2022
Callahan County
– Burglary of Vehicle
Shackelford County
– 2nd degree Theft of Property
– Burglary of Habitation
– Theft of Property
Haskell County
– Engagement in Organized Criminal Activity
– Deadly Conduct
– Burglary of Vehicle
– Theft of Firearm
Cody’s bonds total $607,000 across the four counties listed above.
Accused coconspirators Riley Pitcock and Isiah Carillo are serving nine and six-year prison sentences, respectively.
