New Albany's Braylen Nash named Columbus area high school athlete of the week

In a vote that ended Feb. 10, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before Feb. 5.

The winner is New Albany basketball player Braylen Nash.

Nash scored 41 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field while going 12 of 14 at the line, and had five rebounds and four assists in an 86-66 win at Westland. He also scored 26 points in a 74-61 win over Worthington Kilbourne.

Nash received 39.9% of the vote and was followed by Reynoldsburg bowler Quinn Dean, who got 31.9% of the vote, Whitehall Yearling bowler Taylor Stace (12.4%), Thomas Worthington bowler Josh Innes (9.6%) and Canal Winchester basketball player Vince Mayle (3.3%).

Dean, the runner-up, rolled three strikes in the 10th frame of all eight rounds of the championship to help the Raiders win the Muskingum Tournament. He also made the all-tournament team with a 605 series. He had games of 269 and 278 on consecutive days and has a 205 average.

Stace, playing for the boys team, bowled a 547 series with games of 165, 203 and 179. She finished fifth and earned a spot on the first-team All Ohio MSL team. If the school had a girls team, she would have finished first.

Innes had a career-high 259 game as well as a career-high 482 two-game series with scores of 223 and 259 in a win over Olentangy.

Mayle had 14 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-33 win over Chillicothe.
