Albany's Lefevre collects Big Country Boys Player of the Week award

Trying to pick this week’s Big Country Boys Player of the Week was no easy chore.

There were some impressive performances last week, including the typical big night by Comanche running back Sawyer Wilkerson and Jim Ned’s human cannonball – Brayden Shipman.

But this week’s honor goes to Albany running back/defensive back who had an unbelievable night on both sides of the ball in the No. 7 Lions’ 55-6 victory over Hamlin in a District 6-2A Division II game in Albany.

Albany's Coy Lafevre slips past a Dublin tackler en route to a 21-yard TD run to put his team up 28-0 with 11:11 left in the second quarter. Albany beat Dublin 55-14 on Sept. 2 Cervetto Stadium in Dublin.

The senior ran for 191 yards on 12 carries, including touchdowns of 30 and 45 yards. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns of 12 and 40 yards. The win clinched the No. 1 seed and at least a share of the district title for Albany, which can win it outright against winless TLCA-Abilene on Friday.

After missing three games with an injury, Lefevre has run for 579 yards and 11 TDs on 39 carries in his past four games. He’s also caught three passes for 92 yards and two more TDs.

With the return of quarterback Cole Chapman from an injury as well, the Lions are stocked for a deep playoff run with running back Adam Hill and Lefevre in tow, too. Hill ran for three TDs and 95 yards on 10 carries last week, while also catching two passes for 35 yards and a TD.

Albany started the year ranked No. 1 in the state but tumbled in the top 10 after two losses.
