Albion man killed, 2 hurt in Conneaut Township in Erie region's 3rd fatal crash in 4 days

GIRARD — Pennsylvania State Police troopers are investigating a one-vehicle crash in Conneaut Township early Sunday morning that killed an Albion man and injured two women.

The accident, the third fatal crash in the Erie region in four days, happened on Sunday at about 3:20 a.m. along Route 18 near Pennside Road, south of Albion, according to state police in Girard.

A 2001 Toyota Celica was traveling south on Route 18 at a suspected high speed when it left the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned, ejecting the car's three occupants, troopers reported.

One of the occupants, identified by state police as 33-year-old Michael W. Peterson of Albion, was killed in the accident. The other occupants, a 33-year-old woman from East Springfield and a 32-year-old woman from Albion, were taken by ambulance to UPMC Hamot with unknown injuries, according to state police.

Updated information on their conditions was not available Monday morning.

The crash, which remained under investigation by state police Monday, follows two fatal crashes that happened in the Erie region on Thursday.

Cooperstown, Venango County, residents Tracy R. Kope, 49, and Jay A. Scott, 62, were killed when the vehicle they were in collided with a tractor-trailer along Route 322 at Ridgeway Hill Road in Cochranton, Crawford County, on Thursday at about 8:50 a.m., according to the Crawford County Coroner's Office and Crawford County 911.

A third person in the vehicle was injured and was taken to the hospital. Information on that person and on the extend of their injuries was not available.

The truck driver was not reported injured.

The Cochranton Police Department and state police are investigating the crash.

Michael Shingler, 56, of Lake City, was killed in a one-vehicle crash that happened on Haggerty Street in Girard shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Erie County Coroner's Office.

The Girard Police Department is investigating the accident.
