Albright men fall to Eastern Mennonite in college basketball

Nov. 12—Eastern Mennonite outscored Albright by seven points over the final minutes to come away with an 84-80 victory Saturday at the Carlyle Whitelow Invitational at Bridgewater, Va.

The Lions (1-2), who trailed by as many as 11 in the first half, took a five-point lead on a 3-pointer by Sean Miller with about eight minutes left.

The Royals (1-1) closed the game with a 12-5 run.

Zyon Grant led Albright with 20 points. Chris Kouemi had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Eric Chamberlain scored 10 points.

Aviwe Mahlong scored a game-high 22 points for Eastern Mennonite.

Bridewater 77, Albright 67: Friday at Bridgewater, Va., the Lions (1-1) trailed by 12 at halftime on the way to the loss to the Eagles (1-1) at the Carlyle Whitelow Invitational.

Eric Chamberlain led Albright with 12 points.

Hampden-Sydney 79, Alvernia 62: Friday at Lancaster, the Golden Wolves (1-1) shot just 33%, including 28% in the first half, in falling to the Tigers (1-1) in the first round of the Franklin & Marshall Tip-Off Tournament.

Alvernia, which fell behind 13-3, trailed 33-23 at the half. After Alvernia got within 38-32 early in the second half, Hampden-Sydney put it away with a 25-3 run to go up 63-35 with 9:53 left.

Malik Green led the Golden Wolves with 13 points. Jalil Schenck had 11 and Nigel Cooke had 10. Davidson Hubbard led the Tigers with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Elizabeth City State 85, Kutztown 82: Friday at Lincoln University, no other details were available on the Golden Bears' season-opening loss in the CIAA/PSAC Challenge.

Penn State Berks 88, Bard 72: Saturday at Elmira, N.Y., Darik Tannis-Harriet scored 20 points and Jeff Lorah had 17 to lead the Nittany Lions (1-2) over the Raptors (1-1) at the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament.

Isaiah Cotten had 14 points and Andre Ballard 13 for PSU Berks, which led 49-38 at the half.

Cazenovia 78, Penn State Berks 73: Friday at Elmira, N.Y., the Wildcats (1-1) scored the game's final five points to beat the Nittany Lions (0-2) at the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament.

Penn State Berks took a 73-72 lead on a layoff by Darik Tannis-Harriet with 1:03 left, but Cazenovia's Nate Klein hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left to give the Wildcats the lead at 75-73.

After the Lions' Jeff Lorah missed a 3-pointer, Kobe Bogart hit two foul shots with 21 seconds left to make it 77-73. After a PSU Berks miss, Bogart made 1-of-2 from the line with seven seconds left.

Lorah led Penn State Berks with 18 points. Josh Ruiz had 11 and Thomas Mandell 10. Bogart led the Wildcats with 22 points.

Women

Bryn Mawr 55, Penn State Berks 48: At Bryn Mawr, Lyla Spencer scored 22 points and Hailey Miller had 13 for the Nittany Lions (1-0) in the season-opening loss to the Owls (2-0).

Penn State Berks was outscored 36-29 in the second half after the game was tied 19-19 at the half.

Jessica Smith led Bryn Mawr with 20 points.
