Albuquerque balloon fiesta RV, camping spots sell out in about an hour

Jan. 12—How popular is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta?

This popular: Reservations opened and closed Wednesday morning for RV and camping spots for the event, scheduled Oct. 7-15.

For many hopefuls, the chance to get a spot was over before it even started.

Online-only reservations started at 9 a.m. Wednesday, with Staylist receiving 2.5 million requests per second from 60,346 users, the fiesta reported on Facebook.

"I was on at 9 a.m. sharp to no avail," Dine+Unwind Santa Fe publisher Dana Tate wrote on the balloon fiesta's Facebook page. "On the waiting list but doesn't look promising. I was there last year in my RV. It was amazing. I can't believe it sold out so fast."

The fiesta confirmed spaces were reserved in little more than one hour.

"It took about 70 minutes for all of the 1,785 RV spaces available at Balloon Fiesta Park to be reserved for the 2023 event," according to the fiesta's Facebook post. "There are 3,000 names on the RV waiting list."

The Balloon Fiesta will now confirm reservations in the coming weeks.

The Balloon Fiesta, New Mexico's largest event, had 828,000 attend last year.
