Aldi to acquire Winn-Dixie, Harveys: Here's how many Louisiana stores are changing hands

One of the nation's most popular bargain grocery stores is expanding operations in Louisiana.

German-based Aldi is set to buy about 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores across the Southeast, including locations in Louisiana, in a deal with parent company Southeastern Grocers, the retailer announced Wednesday.

Harveys Supermarket operates locations in Florida and Georgia.

"The time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a news release.

The acquisition includes 400 grocery stores located in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi, the release said. The deal is expected to close in 2024.

"Aldi shares our vision to provide exceptional quality, service and value − and this unique opportunity will evolve our business to benefit our customers, associates and neighbors throughout the Southeast,” Southeastern Grocers President and CEO Anthony Hucker said.
