MASSILLON – Aldi is set to open its newest grocery store in Stark County.

The store at 2624 Lincoln Way E will open to customers at 9 a.m. Thursday. The store will replace the Aldi at 5117 West Tuscarawas St. in Perry Township. That store is set to close at 8 p.m. today.

Aldi officials said they "prioritized a swift and seamless transition" from the old store to the new.

The first 100 customers will receive an eco-bag and a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card from Thursday through Sunday.

This will be the second Aldi location in the city. The national chain opened a grocery store in October 2019 at 3541 Erie St. S near Menards.

According to Aldi officials, the store will offer fresh, organic produce delivered daily, a selection of cheese and wine, and gluten-free and plant-based foods. It also offers shoppers a variety of non-food items, including home decor, clothing and items for pets.

Beginning June 29, grocery delivery and curbside pickup will be available to shoppers at the new Massillon location.

The store will employ 15 to 20 employees. Employees of the Perry Township store were offered the chance to transfer to other stores, officials said, noting no jobs were lost with the closing of the Perry Township site.

Aldi continues to increase its footprint in Stark County

Aldi has eight locations in Stark County, including a new store in Plain Township and the new Massillon location.

The chain opened a new store at 8100 Cleveland Ave. NW earlier this month in a 25,000-square-foot section of the former Fishers Foods store. Locally-owned Fishers closed that location.

The new Massillon store is the latest business to be added to the former Kmart property along Lincoln Way.

The approximately 12,000-square-foot building sits on the site of the former Charlie's restaurant, which was razed. The property is about 1.8 acres.

The former 108,000 square-foot Kmart building was transformed into a Space Shop Self Storage facility, which opened last fall. A Chipotle also was constructed in front of the storage facility.

Recently, city officials announced a drive-thru coffee shop called 7 Brew Coffee is opening next to Chipotle. 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee serves a variety of beverages including infused energy drinks.
