Aldi grocery store could be coming to Henderson

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A former Bed, Bath & Beyond location near the Galleria at Sunset could become the new home of a popular grocery store looking for its first Nevada location.

Aldi, which has more than 2,300 locations nationwide, filed documents in Henderson in early January that suggest the store might move in at 611 Marks St., next to the Best Buy.

The chain prides itself on thrifty innovations — like its system to deposit a quarter to use a grocery cart, and then getting the quarter back when you put it back. But mostly, it’s about the thrift. The chain requires reusable bags (it sells its own) and it shelves groceries in their original shipping boxes.

With its own store brands and some clothing, Aldi would bring some variety to the grocery offerings in the valley. A Walmart Supercenter and a Sprouts are already in the neighborhood, and Target is just up Sunset Road. Smith’s, Albertson’s and Trader Joe’s locations are farther away.

Aldi has an enthusiastic fan base, but not much infrastructure anywhere near Las Vegas. The nearest distribution center is in Moreno Valley, California.

The chain is based in Germany.
