Aldi is planning to open more stores in London
(AP)Aldi has said it will invest £22 million in London as part of the discount supermarket chain’s latest expansion plans.
The German discounter will use the funding on opening new sites or upgrading existing ones, across the capital and within the M25 this year.
Aldi today said it expects to open nine new branches in this area before the end of 2021, including in Dalston and South Harrow.
Aldi has around 900 stores in the UK, and is set to open its 48th London store in Little Venice this week. The firm wants to have 100 stores inside the M25 by 2025.
There will also be a recruitment drive, with the firm looking to hire up to 300 more people to work in shops in the capital.
Ben Shotter, regional managing director at Aldi UK, said: “Whilst we continue to expand throughout the UK, growing our market share in London is a key focus for us. Over the next four years we want to change the fact that some people in London don’t always have easy access to Aldi’s high-quality groceries at the lowest prices.”
Shotter added: “This investment in London stores will help make the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket more accessible to even more people.”
