Alec Baldwin has a new movie in the works after wrapping “Rust.”

The actor is set to star in “Kent State,” which centers on the fatal shootings of four Kent State students by the National Guard in 1970, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There will be no guns on the set of the film, which largely focuses on the misuse of firearms, Entertainment Tonight reported Thursday.

The reports follow Baldwin finishing the resumed production of “Rust,” which was halted for more than a year after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Hutchins, 42, died in October 2021 after being shot by a firearm that Baldwin was handling. Director Joel Souza was also wounded. Baldwin, a producer and star of the Western, claimed he was told the gun was cold, indicating it wasn’t loaded with live ammunition.

Prosecutors dismissed involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin last month but could re-file as an investigation continues. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Production for “Rust” resumed in April at Montana’s Yellowstone Film Ranch after previously taking place at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, N.M.

Earlier this week, Baldwin, 65, posted an Instagram photo from what he described as the final day on set.

“God, it felt good to shave off that beard,” Baldwin captioned a subsequent image, suggesting the production had wrapped.

The “Rust” producers settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Hutchins’ family in October, and her widower, Matthew Hutchins, became an executive producer.

Baldwin will reportedly star in “Kent State” as Robert I. White, who was the university’s president. The shootings took place at a peace rally during the Vietnam War.
