Aledo rolls past Abilene Wylie in Region I-5A semifinals softball series opener

STEPHENVILLE – Ana Flores and Madysen Boutwell both homered in a seven-run seventh inning, while Kayleigh Smith tossed a three-hitter as Aledo beat Wylie 14-2 in five innings in the opener of the Region I-5A semifinal softball series Thursday at Tarleton State.

Game 2 of the series is 2 p.m. Friday at Tarleton. If needed, a third game will be played afterward.

The series’ winner plays the Lubbock Monterey-Burleson Centennial winner in the region finals next week.

Flores led off the second with a homer, and Boutwell capped the inning with a three-run blast for an 8-0 lead.

Wylie got both of its runs on Hanna Hood’s two-out double in the third inning. Kat Martinez, who led off with a walk, and Mycala Reed, who had a one-out single, both scored on the hit.

Aledo, a state finalist a year ago, answered with a run in the third and added five more in the fourth for a 14-2 lead.

Smith retired the final seven batters to end the game on the 10-run rule. She struck out two and walked one.

Marissa Powell and Boutwell had three RBIs for the Ladycats, who pounded out 14 hits – seven for extra bases. Texas Ray and Maddy Jarvis added two RBIs each. All nine Aledo starters had a hit and scored in the game.

Hood led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits.

Wylie starter Reese Farrar took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits. She walked three and struck out none in two innings. Rylee Moore gave up six runs on seven hits. She struck out one.
