Missing Geneva boy found dead in pool

GENEVA, Ala (WDHN) — The search for a missing boy with mental disabilities in Geneva is over.

According to Geneva Police Chief Pepper Mock, 11-year-old Ricky Zane Lawrence was found dead in a swimming pool near his home just after daylight Thursday morning.

Rickey, a student at Mulky Elementary in Geneva, was reported missing Wednesday afternoon after being last seen in the backyard of his home on Jernigan Avenue in Geneva at 5:33 p.m.

“There were no initial signs of any kind of violence,” said Chief Mock. “We have ordered an autopsy from the Department of Forensics just to confirm what we already believe.”

Chief Mock says that Lawrence had a learning and intellectual disability and also had a history of wandering off.

“Our understanding, according to the family and a few neighbors, it was pretty common for him to run off,” says Chief Mock.
