Alex Jones says ex Steve Jones 'stole' Angelina Jolie interview causing on-air split

Alex Jones has claimed her relationship with fellow TV presenter Steve Jones broke down when he took her opportunity to interview Angelina Jolie away from her.

The OneShow host was in a relationship with Jones between 1999 - 2002 when they both worked on Channel 4 breakfast show Rise.

Alex was the entertainment correspondent on the popular programme when an interview with Hollywood star Jolie came in.

However, instead of passing the chance over to her Jones claims her boyfriend pretended she was ill so that he could grab the interview himself.

Talking on the Dish podcast to Nick Grimshaw and Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett in a clip obtained by MailOnline Alex opened up about how the situation was the catalyst for the end of their romance.

She told them: “Normally Rise would call in the morning and ask to come and do an interview or junket.

“I was staying in his flat at the time when I was working in London and he picked up the landline and said ‘Al’s not here. She’s not feeling well, she’s had to go back to Cardiff’ - I was in Topshop.”

“So he did the interview."

The interview came shortly before Jones landed his role as a presenter on the iconic Sunday morning show T4.

Jones has previously described how she broke up with him on live TV after producers called her and she realised what was going on.

She told the Thanks A Million with Angela Scanlon podcast: “So I got back to the flat and was like, where is he? Hours went past, nobody answering their phones. In the end I thought, right I’m going to drive back to Cardiff because I don’t know where you are, you’ve probably gone to the pub.

“Then the production company called and they were like, ‘We’ve got a bit of a situation.

"Tomorrow morning your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it would be really funny if you came on the line, live on the show and surprise him and say you know exactly what he’s been up to.

“So I said yes. On live telly I’m like, ‘You lied to me, where have you been?’ So yeah, not surprisingly, we split up on live telly!”
