Alexandria area high school baseball state quarterfinal roundup for 2022 postseason

Here are the results from the LHSAA state softball quarterfinal round involving Central Louisiana teams.

There are 10 teams from the Alexandria area that made the semifinals, which will be held in Sulphur (non-select), Hammond (select championships) and various sites (select semifinals) beginning Wednesday.

Rosepine 2, Mangham 0 (Best-of-3 series): Pushing their winning streak to 28 games, the Eagles return to Sulphur. Braden Trull struck out seven and held the Dragons to one hit in Game 1, while LSU signee Ethan Frey struck out the side in the seventh inning to get the save in Game 2.

Many 2, Bunkie 1 (Best-of-3 series): A six-run first inning in Game 3 was all the Tigers needed to secure a spot for their first state tournament. Hayden Evans hit a pair of home runs in Game 1 and followed that up with three RBIs in the decisive game. Ethan Riche hit a grand slam in Game 2.

LaSalle 10, Haynesville 0: LaSalle is returning to Sulphur for the second straight season. Beau Skinner allowed four hits and had seven strikeouts, as he also went 3-for-3 and drove in a run. Josh Jones went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Anacoco 15, Florien 3: Anacoco opened the season with an 0-7 start, but now it is in the semifinals after Saturday’s quarterfinal win. Anacoco broke a 3-3 tie by plating 12 runs in the sixth inning — led by a pair of hits and four RBIs by Dylan Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald finished the game with five RBIs.

Calvin 11, Downsville 1: Just like Calvin’s softball team clinched a trip to Sulphur, the baseball team is doing the same. After hitting for the cycle in the first round, Dylan Kyle struck out seven. John Bradley Griffin drove in four runs to pace the Cougars.

Hicks 16, Kilbourne 0: The defending Class C champion Pirates left no doubt as they will return to Sulphur. Hicks opened with 13 runs in the first inning as Zach Haymon hit two doubles and drove in two RBIs. Brad Pelt recorded nine strikeouts and had three RBIs.

Hornbeck 14, Evans 2: After making the finals last year, Hornbeck also returns to Sulphur. Brayden Addison had 10 strikeouts, but his three-run home run got Hornbeck going with a six-run first inning. Addison finished with four RBIs, while Jo Jo Weeks also a hit a home run.

Simpson 7, Harrisonburg 6: Last season, Harrisonburg knocked No. 2 seed Simpson out in the quarterfinals and the Broncos repaid the favor by eliminating the No. 1-seeded Bulldogs. Chase Taylor led Simpson by going 3-for-3.

Grace Christian 6, Episcopal of Acadiana 2: An eight-strikeout performance by Seth Cook was enough to put Grace Christian back in the Division V semifinals. Carson Courtright hit the first home run of his career in the second inning as the Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Country Day 12, Family Christian 2: The Tigers will play Grace Christian in the Division V semifinals after their win Saturday. Parker Stroud inherited a 2-0 deficit but had 14 strikeouts and did not allow a hit in five innings of relief. Kyler Lohman drove in three runs.
