Alexandria to host Class B state teener baseball championships starting Friday

Aug. 3—ALEXANDRIA, S.D. — The Class B teener baseball teams will converge on Hanson County starting on Friday for the South Dakota VFW 16-and-under state tournament in Alexandria.

The games will be played Aug. 5-7. Play opens at noon on Friday with Canova taking on Platte/Geddes, followed by Parkston and Faulkton/Highmore at 2:30 p.m. An opening ceremony is scheduled for 4:45 p.m., followed by Tyndall and Salem playing at 5 p.m., and Alexandria and Mount Vernon/Plankinton playing at 7:30 p.m.

The four quarterfinal winners will play at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the championship game at 4 p.m. Sunday. A fifth-place game will be played at 11 a.m. Sunday and third place will be decided at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Canova, Parkston, Tyndall and MVP were the winners of their respective regions to reach the state tournament, with two teams qualifying per region. Teams are positioned in the bracket based on where they finished in the region qualifying tournaments and two teams from the same region cannot meet until the championship game in the winner's bracket.

Tyndall has won the last two VFW 16U Class B state championships, including winning 10-0 in the 2021 Class B title game over Canova in Clark.
