Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with ELLE.com on Wednesday that she will vote for current House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to become speaker of the House.

"We can't just focus on personality or the person when we talk about change," Ocasio-Cortez said. "Our change as a party needs to be deeper, it needs to be systemic and it needs to be on our values."

"Right now what I see in that chamber is that all of the challenges to leader Pelosi are to her right," she added. "It's to make the Democratic party more conservative. And I think when we have a Republican presidency, a Republican Senate, we shouldn't be making our party more conservative. We need to be more bold in our commitments to progressive values."

The news comes after Ocasio-Cortez criticized Pelosi's opposition for its lack of "diversity" and "vision." Ocasio-Cortez, who upset longtime Rep. Joe Crowley in a June primary, will be the new representative for New York's 14th district when she's sworn in in January.
