Algonquin, Bromfield tops at Mid-Wach swimming championships

Boys' swimming

Mid-Wach Championships: David Hunyh won the 500 freestyle (5:23.72) and was second in the 200 individual medley, while Axel Soderquist was second in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle and Jason Wong was second in the 200 freestyle as the Titans claimed the team title with 391 points at Tantasqua Regional on Thursday.

Algonquin also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.96).

Tantasqua's Sam Merchant was second in the 500 freestyle and teammate Ethan Zhu was second in the 100 backstroke to help the Warriors take second with 255 points.

Westborough's Ari Jain won the 50 freestyle (22.64) and the 100 backstroke (54.88) to help the Rangers finish third with 249 points.

AMSA's Willem deHaan was tops in the 200 freestyle (1:54.81) and the 100 freestyle (50.64), while the Eagles won the 200 medley relay (1:49.29) to clinch fourth place with 241 points.

Shrewsbury's Kevin Dong won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.73) and the 200 individual medley (2:07.05) and the Colonials claimed the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.62) to take fifth with 177 points,

Grafton's Cole Dunne won the 100 butterfly (56.62) to help the Gators take sixth (169 points).

Bromfield (149 points), Wachusett (132 points), Gardner (129 points), Tyngsborough/Groton-Dunstable (106 points), Worcester (50 points) and Nashoba (42 points) rounded out the scoring.

Girls' swimming

Mid-Wach Championships: Bromfield's Lily Tonole won the 1 meter dive with a score of 276.15, while Sierra Quinty was second in the 100 butterfly and Gracic Hanss was second in the 500 freestyle as the Trojans won the team title with 333 points on Thursday at Tantasqua Regional. Bromfield also took the 200 medley relay (2:01.20).

Shrewsbury's Hannah Reddick won the 200 freestyle (2:08.71), Alice Gayduchkova won the 500 freestyle (5:39.00) and Audrey Liu won the 50 freestyle (27.69) as the Colonials placed second with 312.5 points. Shrewsbury also notched a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:52.52).

Westborough's Caitlyn Reitsma won the 100 freestyle (55.52) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.04), while the Rangers also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.61) to finish third with 292 points.

Algonquin's Mina Chung won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.88), while Tyngsborough/Groton-Dunstable's Ro Dudevoir won the 200 individual medley (2:15.73) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.59).

Grafton finished fourth with 252 points, while Nashoba (201 points), Tyngsborough/Groton-Dunstable (148 points), Tantasqua (146.5), Algonquin (139 points), Gardner (119 points), AMSA (108 points), Wachusett (107 points) and Worcester (24 points) rounded out the scoring.
