Algonquin Township Trustees Question Clothing Costs
ALGONQUIN, IL – Algonquin Township trustees voted to pull more than $1,400 in reimbursements for boots and clothing for road district employees. Highway Commissioner Andrew Gasser submitted the items for payment but trustees questioned whether he thoroughly reviewed the purchases, pointing out that several employees bought boots that went over the $150 cost limit, according to the Northwest Herald. The road district’s clothing allowance policy allows $150 a year to be spent on steel-toed safety shoes or boots and $250 a year for clothing items used on the job, like Carhartt outerwear and Under Armour undergarments.
Among the items submitted for reimbursement were boots costing $159.99, $179.99 and $229 – all purchases made by separate employees. Another employee bought two different pairs in one year, costing $140 and $170 each, according to the Northwest Herald.
This is not the first time this year trustees have called into question clothing reimbursements for road district employees.
In August, trustees decided to pull purchases made by Algonquin Township’s deputy road commissioner Ryan Provenzano. He bought 18 pairs of Nike socks for $72, a $150 pair of Keen Gypsum waterproof hiking boots and three pairs of Levi’s 514 jeans for $178.50 from Nordstrom, according to the Northwest Herald.
Provenzano ended up resigning in October.
