Skincare trends may come and go, but when celebrities and supermodels like Alicia Keys, Cindy Crawford, and Elle Macpherson start incorporating them into their skincare regimens—you know it's something that's bound to last, and worth trying.

In a recent Instagram post, Keys shared a picture of herself using her new Keys Soulcare Energizing Dry Body Brush. In the caption she expressed the importance of self-love, writing, "Don't be shy lovin' on yourself! The world can drive you out of your mind if you forget about you. You deserve to be good to you!"

Chances are you've already heard about this centuries-old beauty ritual: dry brushing. It's a type of exfolliating that requires the use of a dry, stiff-bristled brush that's said to have a ton of wellness benefits.

From healing flaky winter skin to increasing circulation, detoxifying, and reducing the appearance of cellulite—dry brushing is a beauty method that's proven to be worth the hype. "It's a basic method of exfoliation," said Heidi A Waldorf, M.D., a clinical associate professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai in New York in a previous interview for Prevention.com.

"You're scrubbing off dead skin cells, but it's important to remember that less is more when dry brushing," Dr. Waldorf said. She recommends brushing once a week for a short amount of time, only using minimal pressure. "As soon as you're finished, make sure you slather on a moisturizing body lotion since exfoliating can lead to dryness," she explains.

This dry brush uses biodegradable vegan bristles and is crafted from sustainable plant-based ingredients. The brand also states that dry brushing offers a gentle yet efficient way of removing dead skin cell buildup by cleaning out the pores while refreshing and awakening the skin.

The 40-year-old enjoys spending time on her skincare routine so much that she swore off wearing makeup in 2016 because of how much she depended on it. Instead, she chose to embrace her natural beauty and encouraged other women to do so, too. Ultimately, this lead to her clean skincare brand, Keys Soul Care.

"Skincare to me is like a ritual. It's a really special time with yourself to just kind of give yourself some love," she said in a video for Allure.

Supermodels are also enjoying the skin benefits from dry brushing. Elle Macpherson recently told Vogue that dry brushing is an essential part of her skincare routine. "For me, circulation is key, lymphatic draining is really important...you got to move those toxins out of your body, or it will show on your skin," said Macpherson. And she does so using a dry body brush similar to this one.
