'Aliens' invade Downtown Fremont for Crop Circle art and musical festival

FREMONT - The sixth annual Crop Circle art and music event was held last weekend in downtown Fremont with this year's theme focused on "Aliens."

Crop circles are patterns created in farm fields when sections of corn or other crops are pressed down to the ground, which some theorize are caused by alien crafts landing in the field.

The Fremont festival had a table where aluminum foil hats were available, as some people theorize they can prevent aliens from controlling human being's brains. There were costumed alien stilt walkers, alien characters, and an alien with just eyes, hands, and feet walking around downtown.

“This Crop Circle (festival) has been going on since 2018 and at first we had it as a farmers market, but it has grown to be so big that it had to be an event by itself,” said Kristie Bilger, executive director of Downtown Fremont Inc. “The first three events were with the farmers market."

The festival was free to the public and featured an alien glow dance party, glassblowing and blacksmithing, free caricatures, face painting, balloon twisting, and Crop Circle crafts.

There was also an Art Walk where patrons followed glowing alien hands around town so visitors could enjoy the local businesses and local artists.

“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Drew Young, manager of GLOvation Circus. “We always have so much fun with the kids.” GLOvation Circus provided the alien characters and entertainment.

Artists were in full action at the event; there were yarn bombs, painting, and other activities in which to participate.

“I enjoy this event, especially at night when it's glowing," said Samantha Young from Port Clinton. “This is my second time here, and the event keeps getting better.”

The festival included a DORA alien pub crawl, an open-air art market, food trucks, and glow kayaking.
