Alita: Battle Angel 2 gets an exciting update

Alita: Battle Angel has one of the most passionate fanbases out there, constantly campaigning and taking out adverts to try and get a sequel made.
While that hasn't happened yet, there's been a recent update that's positive, if cautious.
In an interview with Total Film and GamesRadar+, director Robert Rodriguez stated that all the big creative names who worked on the first Alita — himself and producers Jon Landau and James Cameron — are talking about how they can make Alita: Battle Angel 2 happen.

"Yeah, we have been talking about it, so we would love to make one," Rodriguez shared.
"We haven't set it for sure yet, but we're definitely hoping to and talking about it a lot. [Landau and Cameron are] slammed with all the Avatar stuff, but they've definitely been engaging in it."
Avatar: The Way of Water was finally released last year, 13 years after the first film. Interestingly, during the promotional trail, Cameron noted that he's often made sequels that don't come out for ages after the originals, and they've all done pretty well.
Despite that being his usual MO, he's planning to release three more Avatar sequels on a two-year schedule, all the way up to 2028. While Cameron only produces Alita, he's involved enough that Avatar is cited as a factor in why a sequel hasn't gotten off the ground yet.
Recently, Landau spoke about seeing an ad from the Alita Army, as the fanbase is known, in a newspaper.
He said: "I've been in New Zealand for quite some time and I went back to Los Angeles over the summer and the day I was there, the first day back, I opened the Los Angeles Times and there's an ad from the Alita Army in colour and I was like, 'There you go! Thank you. Keep it up!'"
