On 16 July in Uzhhorod, actors of the bombed-out  Mariupol theatre played their first performance after the tragedy.

They performed a play by Vasyl Stus, "ry of the nation", on the stage of the Transcarpathian Regional Music and Drama Theatre named after the Sherehhi brothers, reports Ukrinform.

The performance will be shown again on 17 and 23 July.

The date of the premiere was not chosen by chance – on this day 4 months ago, the Russians dropped a super-powerful aerial bomb on the [acting troupe’s] alma mater.

"Therefore, exactly four months after that, with the premiere of the play by Stus, we announced ourselves to the whole world: we are alive," said the producer and director of the Mariupol theatre Liudmyla Kolosovych.

With this performance, the troupe is planning a tour of Poland, France and Slovakia – there are already preliminary arrangements for the show.

The actors and director were awarded badges of honour "for developing the Donetsk region" after the premiere.

It is known that out of the 200 employees of the theatre, only seven participants and the manager left the occupied city and wanted to bring back their theatre.
