Alleged major drug dealer arrested with several thousand fentanyl pills, pounds of heroin, crack in Utah County

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Police arrested a man in possession of several thousand fentanyl pills and pounds of heroin and crack in Utah County on Monday, according to the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).

Jose Angel Lugo, 33, was arrested on four counts of distribution of a controlled substance (second-degree felony).

On Feb. 12, SBI agents and officers from the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force were investigating Lugo on the distribution of illegal narcotics.

Police conducted a traffic stop on Lugo and a K9 unit performed a vehicle sniff, which indicated the presence of drugs.

During the search, authorities found “several thousand fentanyl pills” as well as crack cocaine in the vehicle. An individual identified as Johnathan Hipolito Santos Roman was in the passenger seat during the stop, who is also accused of involvement in large-scale drug distribution.

A search warrant was granted for Lugo’s residence, and police found “several pounds of heroin and crack cocaine.”

Lugo was booked into Davis County Jail on the charges previously mentioned.

“Both individuals are involved in the sale of large quantities of controlled substance that put the public in danger,” a probable cause affidavit states. “They have a criminal history of repeated drug distribution and show no clear signs of stopping.”
