Allegheny Co. Still Leads PA In Coronavirus Vaccinations

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A month into the rollout of the largest vaccination effort in the nation's history, substantially more people have received the coronavirus vaccine in Allegheny County than any other county in Pennsylvania.

According to the latest state Department of Health statistics, 33,950 people have had partial vaccinations and 5,959 have had full ones since the program began on Dec. 14. Two doses are required to be fully inoculated.

While the number of vaccinations administered may seem disappointing, given the county's population of 1.2 million, it is significantly better than any other county in the state. Ranking directly behind Allegheny County are the following four counties in eastern Pennsylvania:

  • Montgomery: 21,049 partial, 2,617 full.

  • Lehigh: 18,593 partial, 3,182 full.

  • Bucks: 12,685 partial, 3,004 full.

  • Northampton: 12,571 partial, 2,124 full.

The numbers for Western Pennsylvania counties as of Friday morning:

  • Westmoreland: 8,669 partial, 1,970 full.

  • Butler: 4,943 partial, 1,011 full.

  • Washington: 4,801 partial, 841 full.

  • Beaver: 2,062 partial, 309 full.

The state continues to vaccinate those eligible in Phase 1A of its plan, which covers health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities. Plans are afoot to move to Phase1B, which would vaccinate essential workers such as food service and public transportation employees, as well as teachers.

President-elect Joe Biden has called for faster distribution of the vaccine and wants 100 million does administered during the first 100 days of his presidency, which begins on Wednesday.
