Allegheny County primary election day: What you need to know before Tuesday
May primary election day is just a few days away and one of the most watched races is for the Allegheny County Executive position.
Polling places will open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday for the primary election.
In Allegheny County, there are more than 1,300 polling places where voters will go to decide who will be on the November ballot.
There are six Democrats in the county executive race: Theresa Colaizzi, Dave Fawcett, Sara Innamorato, Michael Lamb, Will Parker and John Weinstein. There is one Republican running for the position and that is Joe Rockey.
The three Democratic frontrunners, Innamorato, Weinstein, and Lamb all sat down with Channel 11 last week, when we asked them what issues they would prioritize if they were able to become the county’s next chief executive.

Weinstein is focusing on public safety.
“People have to feel safe and as the county executive, we could utilize resources to help the municipalities the communities that need it the most,” said Weinstein.
Innamorato wants to work on affordable housing.
“It means that we are addressing the homelessness in our region, it means that we are creating programs where working families can afford to purchase a home and stay here and raise their family here,” said Innamorato.
Lamb said he wants to create jobs and suggested free community college tuition.
“We have close to 40,000 job vacancies here in Allegheny County and 60 percent require some form of certificate and not a four-year degree,” said Lamb.
Polls close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Anyone in the line by 8 p.m. will still be able to vote.
Absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on election night. Anyone who would like to drop an absentee ballot off in person can do so at the County Office Building until 7 p.m. on Sunday, between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Monday or between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
