Allegheny Health Network to expand at Wexford Hospital

Allegheny Health Network is adding a thoracic surgery program to its newest hospital, AHN Wexford.

The AHN Center for Thoracic Surgery performs treatment for esophageal cancer, pulmonary disease, some hernias, lung cancer and other conditions. It has received high ratings from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for lung resection, which is one of 28 centers across the country that have been awarded the honor.

The director of the new program at AHN Wexford is Dr. Hiran C. Fernando. Fernando said in a statement that it was important to have a thoracic surgery program there to treat complex conditions and work with other doctors.
