Allegiant Air opens massive Sunseeker Resort travel destination in Southwest Florida

Allegiant Air’s Sunseeker Resort in Charlotte Harbor, which suffered millions of dollars of damage from Hurricane Ian in 2022, delaying its opening, is welcoming its first guests this month.

Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor opened Friday, Dec. 15.

The resort features 785 guest rooms, 189 luxury suites (one-to-three bedroom layouts ranging from 875 to 1,700 square feet), 60,000 square feet of meeting and conference space, seven stand-alone restaurants, 11 bars and lounges and a 25,000-square-foot food hall.

Other features include an 18-hole golf course and retail outlets along a harborside promenade, a 7,100-square-foot fitness center and a 21,000-square-foot adults-only rooftop retreat.

A 117,000-square-foot ground-level pool is billed as the largest in Southwest Florida.

Sunseeker Resort is situated 10 minutes from Punta Gorda Airport and within a short drive from Sarasota Bradenton International Airport as well as airports in Fort Myers, Tampa and St. Petersburg.

Allegiant plans SRQ expansion

Allegiant Air is scheduled to move into the five new gates in a ground-level terminal under construction at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport next December.

The move into new terminal space could allow Allegiant to increase its flights into and out of SRQ, as well as open up space for other airlines in the existing concourse.

Elliott Falcione, executive director of The Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the opening of Sunseeker Resort only enhances the brand of Southwest Florida.

“I am happy for them. They have worked hard to open Sunseeker. It will enhance service at Punta Gorda Airport as well as at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport,” he said.

Sunseeker is an addition to the other tourism assets in Southwest Florida, he said.

Micah Richins, president of Sunseeker Resorts, called the opening an exciting day.

“We have been waiting to celebrate this monumental day and all of our incredible talent we have here,” Richins said in a news release.
