Alliance-based Cassady-Turkle-Christian acquires Kreighbaum-Sanders funeral homes

CANTON TWP. ‒ Alliance-based funeral service Cassaday-Turkle-Christian will have a presence in Canton Township and East Canton after buying the Kreighbaum-Sanders funeral operation.

Cassaday-Turkle-Christian said the names of the acquired funeral homes will be retained as well as the respective staffs.

"We are honored that the Sanders family has given us the opportunity to serve the community and carry on their legacy of service," Adam Christian of Cassaday-Turkle-Christian said in a prepared statement. "The decision was easy. We felt that the way Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Homes served their families and communities was very much in line with how we run our funeral home and cremation service in Alliance."

Adam Christian operates Cassaday-Turkle-Christian with his father, John Christian.

Kreighbaum-Sanders is at 4041 Cleveland Ave. SW and Sanders Funeral Home is at 218 E. Nassau St. in East Canton.

"We are privileged to turn the operations over to John and Adam," Scott Sanders of Kreighbaum-Sanders said in a prepared statement. "They were carefully selected as our successors as we felt the community would continue to be well cared for and our family-owned business model would stay intact."

Scott Sanders has joined his brother, Randy, in operating Kreighbaum-Sanders.

"It is important for us to thank the Sanders family for all their service to the East Canton community," East Canton Mayor David Spencer said. "Sad to see them go. But we also are glad to see the new group come in. We are happy they found a buyer that wants to remain in East Canton."

With the acquisition, customers who choose Kreighbaum-Sanders or Sanders can have cremation service handled by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian.

"They stay within our care," Christian said. "We think it is an additional service that we can provide. We have a crematory."

The sale of the properties closed Dec. 22, according to Stark County real estate records. The Sanders brothers sold their funeral properties for $1.07 million.

The Sanders brothers reached out to Cassaday-Turkle-Christian to establish the deal.

Maintaining Kreigbaum-Sanders name on the business shows "I would say sensitivity," said Andrew Allman, executive director of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. "Having that name recognition provides some comfort to the community."
