The Alliance of Churches plans a community Good Friday worship service at 7 p.m. April 7 at First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St. in Washington Township.

Everyone is welcome.

Rev. Russ Gumm of Alliance Friends Church and Rev. John Partridge of Alliance Christ United Methodist Church will preach brief meditations. Marsha Graham of Science Hill Community Church will share special music. Other participating churches and organizations include Spirit of Faith Christian Center, New Beginnings House of God, Alliance Church of the Nazarene, Union Avenue United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army of Alliance, Trinity Episcopal Church, and the Gideons.

Good Friday is commemorated by Christians as the anniversary of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Worship services on this day are solemn and respectful. Officials say that by worshiping together on Good Friday, we demonstrate the unity of the church.

The Alliance of Churches is a local organization that has been bringing together churches and community partners for more than 100 years.

The event is the group’s first community-sponsored Good Friday service since 2019 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
