Alliance Amateur Radio Club will celebrate Amateur Radio Week with a field day exercise on Saturday and Sunday.

Field Day is held twice a year, once apiece in winter and summer.

Club members work to establish radio communications using portable generators, a battery and solar energy. Field Day also gives members the chance to test equipment and refine the skills of amateur radio operators.

Another important skill of each Amateur Radio Operator includes the United States National Weather Service’s Skywarn System. Skywarn System trains first res ponders, fire and police and Amateur Radio Operators in the process of weather observation for any season of the year. Skywarn provides important information for the National Weather Service during severe weather situation events.

Alliance Amateur Radio Club is a member of American Radio Relay League.

It's an ARRL Special Services Club, which means it can provide internal and external programming. The club also provides licensing classes for new amateur radio operators; testing for new and upgrade licenses; and mentoring for new members.

Club members provide emergency communication for the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Grand Parade, Alliance Rotary Club Castle Run and Alliance Salvation Army’s 5-K and Walk and other Community Projects.

AARC has operated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic using several radio bands weekly. AARC is completing its annual fundraiser, which supports the Alliance Police and Fire departments and Salvation Army projects during Christmas.
