Alliance names Tim Goodman as its new athletic director

ALLIANCE — Head football coach Tim Goodman is the new athletic director for Alliance City Schools.

The Board of Education approved the hire Tuesday night, district officials announced in a news release.

Goodman has been the varsity football coach since 2021, a position he'll keep. He also taught math at Alliance High School.

The position has been open since former athletic director Lenny Reich died in October. Reich, well-known in collegiate sports, served as the athletic director from July 2022 until his death.

The district sought applications in February.

Superintendent Rob Gress said the district sought a person who had the vision and skills to push the district's athletic programs to the next level. In Goodman, officials believe they found that person.

"As a coach, he has proven to us that he is an organized leader who embraces our core values of having high expectations of his athletes and coaching staff while treating them with the dignity and respect that we expect," Gress said.

Goodman, in a statement, said he was excited for the opportunity to be the athletic director.

"Mr. Gress and the Alliance City Schools Board of Education have established an outstanding culture and vision for our district and I look forward to contributing in this new role," Goodman said.

He added: "We have a lot of momentum and exciting things happening within our athletics. I will build on that momentum and help ACS capture the goal of a being a '3 As' school district, meaning excellence in academics, athletics and arts."

In 2012, Goodman received a bachelor's degree from Walsh University and a master's degree from Western Governors University in 2016.

Prior to working in Alliance, he was an assistant varsity football coach at Hoover High School, where he also taught math.

In two football seasons, the Aviators have gone 11-10 under Goodman. Last season, the team finished 8-3 and made the playoffs.
