Eight young adults from Northern Ireland have begun their three-week visit to America, arriving Monday night at Akron-Canton Airport. The group landed in Green after a day of flying on American Airlines, first from Northern Ireland to Charlotte, then on to the regional airport just outside Stark County. The group was greeted by their host families, a beaming group with colorful signs welcoming the teenagers who’ll be staying with them. Over the next few weeks, the students will visit such sites as Barber Airport, Grove City for outlet shopping, Akron for a Rubber Ducks game and Cedar Point. In between, they’ll have time to discuss their differences, learn about each other’s faiths and celebrate their connections. The project returns this year after a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It originated as an attempt to help young people of different faiths and backgrounds to learn to work together in harmony.
