In September, it was flamingos spotted along the shore in Port Washington; now it's an alligator on a beach in South Milwaukee.

A small alligator was spotted on Grant Park beach in South Milwaukee on Monday, police said.

Police contacted the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission and South Milwaukee Police Officer Tim Lewison was “able to locate and safely take the gator into custody,” according to a post on the South Milwaukee Police Facebook page.

The animal is now at MADACC ― see ya later, alligator!

Are we sure after a while it won't turn out to be a crocodile?

One of the best ways to tell the two apart is the snout. "In alligators it’s broad and U-shaped, while in crocodiles it’s narrow and V-shaped," according to Britannica.com. Additionally, the lower teeth are not typically visible when an alligator's mouth is closed while some teeth in the bottom jaw are often visible in a croc's closed mouth.

The Journal Sentinel has reached out to Lewison to hear how he apprehended the alligator and this story will be updated if we hear back.
