It's (almost) Girl Scout Cookie time. What's new this year and how to get them in Peoria
National Girl Scout Cookie season is officially underway.
In what the organization says is the largest annual fundraiser in the world dedicated to girls, each year more than 1 million Scouts sell more than 200 million packages of cookies and raise over $800 million, on average. The selling season is generally from January through April. Deliveries will begin in February.
This year brings a new cookie offering and a new delivery method.

What's new, and what's hot
In addition to perennial favorites Thin Mints and Samoas/Caramel deLites, among other offerings, Girl Scouts are selling Adventurefuls, "indulgent brownie-inspired cookies topped with caramel flavored crème with a hint of sea salt." Cookie connoisseurs are already abuzz with anticipation. According to Google via USA TODAY, Adventurefuls were the most searched Girl Scout Cookies in Iowa, Kansas and Arkansas as the national season got underway. (In Illinois, the top search was for Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties, amid a national sea of Thin Mint queries. South Dakota was a singular outlier, being mostly Do-Si-Do/Peanut Butter Sandwich-curious.) As for actual purchases, Illinoisans are partial to Thin Mints, according to a 2017 poll by Influenster on the 100th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookies.

To get your Girl Scout Cookie fix this season, you can visit www.girlscoutcookies.org, text COOKIES to 59618 or use the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app for free on iOS or Android devices to find cookie booths available in your area. Cookies also can be purchased online from individual Girl Scouts.
A cookie search for Peoria showed booth sales beginning Feb. 4 at the Hy-Vee at 4125 N. Sheridan Road and continuing Fridays through Sundays at that location through March 20. Northwoods Mall will host booth sales Feb. 5-6 and 12-13. The Hy-Vee at 7610 N. Orange Prairie Road will host booth sales Feb. 4.
A cookie and a cause: How Girl Scout Cookies went from cafeteria treat to national treasure
This year, Girl Scouts has partnered with DoorDash to deliver cookies. Customers in select areas will be able to exclusively place orders on DoorDash.com or through the DoorDash app for pickup or delivery.
Girl Scout cookie sales were begun by the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in December 1917. By the 1930s, the organization had hired commercial bakers and the cookies were sold nationwide.
