Almost half of Gaston County now fully vaccinated

Some 49% of people living in Gaston County are fully vaccinated as of Dec. 21, according to data from North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after they've been given a single-dose shot (Johnson & Johnson) or a second shot (either Pfizer or Moderna).

North Carolina reported 1,602,489 total cases of coronavirus, an increase of 2% from the week before.

The five counties with the highest percentage of their population fully vaccinated in North Carolina as of Dec. 21 are Orange County (77%), Dare County (74%), Wake County (72%), Durham County (70%) and Brunswick County (66%).
