ALT Academy presents 'Robin Hood: The Rest of the Story'

The Amarillo Little Theatre (ALT) Academy is inviting the community to the world premiere of "Robin Hood: The Rest of the Story." This quick-paced, witty script is written by ALT veteran and Academy Instructor Carrie Huckabay, with original music by ALT Award winner Jeffrey Pickens.

"This script builds on a lot of the original material from early on, including the original legends. ... For those that know and are familiar with the original story, they are sure to love our sort of after story about the characters' adventures now. And for those that are not familiar, we do provide some background information, and they can still enjoy the tale. ... This is just a fun way for some audience members to remember that classic childhood tale in a new adventure," said Academy Director and "Robin Hood: The Rest of the Story" director Mikayla Garren.

The Sherwood Forest comes to life as some of its most famous inhabitants seek to right new wrongs. Robin Hood has just returned from his time fighting in the Crusades alongside King Richard. As his trusty band of Merry Men welcome him back to the Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood is caught up on all the goings on of the kingdom, including the acts of an imposter using the Robin Hood name to continue the original’s good works in his absence. Robin, Little John and the rest of the Merry Men continue to fight for justice against the greedy Prince John and his servant, the Sheriff of Nottingham, while also working to unmask this other Robin Hood and discover his motives. This new story based on the iconic legend of Robin Hood focuses on a quiver full of familiar characters, such as Robin himself, Alan A Dale, Little John, Maid Marian, Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham, while introducing some of the lesser-known characters from the many beloved tales.

Seven-year ALT Academy student Sadie Stone spoke about her portrayal of Maid Marian and how the characters have grown from the original story to portray different, more mature sides of the characters.

"In this story, Maid Marian still has her kind spirit and wants to do whatever she can to make things right but is a bit spunkier and more confident in herself and her mission, and this is something that the audience will be able to see and connect with," Stone said.

Stone also spoke about how this is her first time cast as a lead role in an ALT production, and she looks forward to being able to perform the character development on stage and give life to a well-known and loved character.

"Robin Hood: The Rest of the Story" features 50 talented Academy students in the 3rd through 12th grades. Academy student and theater intern Mabry Fristoe serves as assistant director, and lyricist Pickens serves as production assistant. Early 1500s England is brought to the ALT stage with set design by Academy alumni Brandon Khamphoumy and Noah Lang and costume design by Joni Norris.

This comedic adventure is being presented Oct. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 22 and 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Allen Shankles Mainstage. Action, laughs and heartwarming adventure fill every minute of "Robin Hood: The Rest of the Story."

Ticket prices are $15 for ages 12 and up and $12 for ages under 12. Reservations can be made by calling the ALT box office at 806-355-9991 or online at www.amarillolittletheatre.org.
