May 12—Music is powerful enough to bring people together.

For Vanessa Silberman and Ryan Carnes, it was a similar love for music that brought them together.

One that took a few years to come to fruition.

Silberman had been performing as a solo artist for years, while Carnes has spent a majority of his time in the film and TV world as an actor.

In 2015, the two met for a holiday party and became fast friends.

Carnes would routinely fill in on drums during Silberman's shows in Los Angeles.

By 2019, the pair decided to give it a go — thus forming the alt-pop outfit LOVECOLOR. The pair are touring the country and will make two stops in New Mexico. The first is at the Mine Shaft Tavern & Cantina in Madrid at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, and then at 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 at JUNO Brewery + Cafe.

This will be the duo's first time in New Mexico and have released the single, "Dangerous."

Silberman says she lived on the road while making music solo.

There came a point when she felt like her music needed to evolve and that's when she began to seek advice from Carnes.

"When Ryan used to fill in, I used to say that he's my dream drummer," she says. "When we began to create music together, I would make a demo and ask Ryan what he thinks about it. I started enjoying Ryan's thoughts. He just had the best ideas and I kept asking him. It just became a natural thing."

Carnes says the pair worked on fine-tuning stuff and had a conversation about evolving the sound a bit.

"We had these in-depth conversations," Carnes says. "Vanessa and I love to play rock and roll. We were curious about moving forward in this dance pop and alt-pop world. We like those subgenres a lot. We started sending each other music and getting inspiration."

While working on the single "Dangerous," Carnes says he had a watershed moment while working with Silberman.

"There was a moment for me when I felt a sigh of relief," Carnes says. "It hadn't been easy to work with others in the past because there had been a lot of ego in the room. With Vanessa, her understanding speaks volumes to me. The communication is important."

Silberman says the duo continues to experiment when it comes to the live shows.

"There's still a spirit of rock," Silberman says. "Yet, there's a sultry and vulnerable side to what we do. There's a lot of components and the songs are varied. I think we have a lot of fun playing."

Carnes says the live aspect is a little tough to describe.

"Hopefully it comes across as a really passionate investment of what we're doing," Carnes says. "We're a couple of people that loves to be on stage and share music with people in an enthusiastic manner."
