Altice outage in Morris: Rt. 53 crash cuts cable, phone, internet for 20,000 customers

A few hundred customers were still without cable, internet and phone services late Wednesday afternoon after a predawn vehicle crash and fire on Route 53 in Parsippany caused extensive outages in the region, said Altice spokesperson Ashwin Bhandari.

The crash occurred near Parsippany's Mount Tabor section. At the peak of the outage, as many as 20,000 of the utility's customers were affected.

The majority were concentrated in the Parsippany-Boonton area, several miles north of the crash site with thousands of customers and three highways in between. Those still affected in the area north of Route 46 were still without service as of 4:45 p.m., Bhandari said.

Altice provides its services under the Optimum brand.

Bhandari could not provide an estimated time to complete repairs, but said crews were on the scene "splicing cable."
