Alumni Association tops $230,000 in scholarships

Feb. 27—MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Alumni Association has awarded more than $231,000 in scholarships in its 16-year history, according to a statement from the association, and is accepting applications for 2023.

The association has distributed application forms at Moses Lake High School, Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center, Big Bend Community College, Moses Lake School District and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, according to the statement. Today is the last day to submit an application, the MLAA wrote.

So far, the MLAA has awarded scholarships to 213 students, 15 of them in 2022. The funds come entirely form donations, the statement said. While there would ordinarily be a celebration and awards luncheon for members and scholars, COVID-19 restrictions on MLSD premises have put the kibosh on the gathering since 2020, the statement said. Nevertheless, it added, members have kept the scholarships going through member dues and donations.
