Alumni Corner: Dunnellon running back Rudy Sinflorant wraps up big career at Augustana

Former Dunnellon running back Rudy Sinflorant recently finished his career at Augustana inside the top-10 for career rushing yards.

Sinflorant leaves the Vikings with 1,984 yards and 14 touchdowns on 469 carries.

His best season came in 2018 when, as a sophomore, he was named second-team NSIC All Conference after gaining 905 yards and scoring seven touchdowns on 214 attempts. That year he ran for a career-high 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Wayne State.

While at DHS, Sinflorant (6-feet, 208 pounds) was a team captain and named a first-team All-County selection as a senior after rushing for 1,131 yards and an area-best 23 touchdowns. He also finished second on the Tigers with 63 tackles at linebacker.

Sinflorant recently participated in The Dream Bowl all-star showcase of the top FCS, Division II and Division III players in the country.

Brenen Lorient update

Brenen Lorient, the Star-Banner’s boys basketball player of the year for the 2020-21 season, transferred to Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian prior to his senior year and is doing well.

The 6-9 FAU signee, who said he models his game after two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, is averaging 9.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks for the Eagles (12-1). He finished his junior year averaging 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks en route to leading Forest to the 2021 FHSAA Class 6A state semifinals.

MaxPreps rates Calvary Christian as the No. 5 team in Florida in its most recent all-classification rankings. The Eagles are ranked first in Class 4A.
