Is it too early to start talking about recruiting and the Class of 2040?

Tres Barrera was among the Texas Exes who participated in this past weekend's alumni game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Barrera wasn't just in town for a reunion, though. His daughter, Klea, celebrated her first birthday on Saturday and the Barrera family spent part of her big day at the ballpark. Barrera is married to former Texas softball standout Lindsey Stephens.

Tres Barrera was the starting catcher at Texas from 2014-16, and he led the Longhorns in home runs during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Lindsey Barrera's 47 homers from 2013-16 rank second in the UT softball team's record book.

So has Texas softball coach Mike White offered Klea a scholarship yet?

"Not yet. She's already swinging the bat, I got her a tee in the house," Barrera said with a smile.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2016, Barrera has appeared in 51 games in his major league career and he won a World Series ring with Washington in 2019. This offseason, he signed a minor-league deal with St. Louis.

"I'm very excited. Class A organization over there in St. Louis," Barrera said. "I had a great time in Washington. I lived my lifelong dream of becoming a major league baseball player, had a good couple of years there."
