Alumni hockey game gives former Gardner Murdock players a chance to reconnect

GARDNER – Over the Thanksgiving break, the Gardner Veterans Arena, home to the current GHS-Murdock boys hockey team, drew 46 former players for two alumni games.

Divided by ages, players ranged from the Class of 1975 to the Class of 2019.

Mark Quinn, a Murdock junior and the current goalie for the co-op team, served as referee.

The first game featured the younger alumni and was won by the Black team 7-6 over the White team. The game featured goals by Matt Robinson (2 goals), Mike Duteau (2 goals), Brad Richard (2 goals) and Randy Comeau for the men in Black. Duteau, a member of the Gardner Class of 1994, remains the No. 3 career goal scorer in team history.

The White team had goals by DJ Howard (3 goals), Derek Beauregard, Duane Bastarache and Jacques Gallant.

Howard, a GHS 1990 grad, still holds the team record as all-time career point scorer. More than 30 years have elapsed since Gallant, a 1991 GHS grad, had his yet-unbeaten fastest goal to start a game, 5 seconds, on Feb. 16, 1991 vs. Oakmont.

Jake Jalbert and Ryan McCaie served as goalies.
