Alvarado, Godley track & field athletes advance to regionals

Apr. 20—KENNEDALE — After strong showings at the District 10-4A track and field meet last week, the Alvarado Indians and Godley Wildcats each followed that up with solid performances at the District 9- and 10-4A area track and field championships Wednesday at Kennedale High School.

Alvarado had nine individuals and three relay teams advance to regionals while Godley had eight individuals move on to the regional meet.

The Class 4A Region II track and field championships are scheduled for April 28-29 at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Alvarado

Alvarado's Lance Sansom claimed an area title in the boys long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 9 inches. Sansom also qualified for regionals with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 2.25 inches.

Alvarado's Enrique Caraveo joined Sansom as an area champion after he took first place in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.23

In addition to two first-place finishes, Alvarado had a pair of second-place finishes as well.

Candra Bridgewater placed second in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 58.65 seconds and Chaunacey Hammond finished in second place in the girls triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 8 inches. Hammond also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.82 seconds.

Alvarado's Danny Clampitt finished third in the boys high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 11 inches to advance.

In the relays, the Lady Indians' 4x200 team of Hammond, Brooke Bridgewater, Joslyn Jarmon and Aniyah Cross finished second with a time of 1:43.85, just 0.43 seconds behind first place.

The Lady Indians' 4x100 relay team of Cross, Brooke Bridgewater, Jarmon and Candra Bridgewater placed third with a time of 49.08 seconds

The Indians' 4x400 relay team of Colten Smith, Caraveo, Jaylen Bridgewater and Clampitt placed second with a time of 3:34 to advance to regionals.

And the Indians' 4x200 relay team of Payton Woolard, Jaylen Bridgewater, Cassius Johnson and Clampitt placed third with a time of 1:32.47

Also qualifying for regionals for Alvarado include: Jarmon, fourth place in the girls triple jump (35 feet, 2.25 inches); Aaron McGowan, fourth place in the boys pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches); Jaiden Wright, fourth place in the girls high jump (4 feet, 8 inches); and Kaleb Arredondo, fourth palce in the boys 1,600-meter run (5:02.36).

Godley

After winning her third straight district title in the girls high jump last week, Godley's Logan Reed took first place at the area meet as well with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches.

Joining Reed as an area champ for Godley is Veronica Duran, who placed first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.91 seconds. She also qualified for regionals in the 100-meter hurdles with a third-place finish and time of 17.39 seconds.

Kade Sundheim qualified for regionals in both throwing events. He took second place in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 11.5 inches and third place in the discus with a mark of 118 feet, 4 inches.

Alex Duran took second place in the boys discus toss with a throw of 123 feet, 1 inch, while Ryan Gambino took third place in the boys shot put with a mark of 43 feet, 2 inches.

Stephanie Favela finished in second place in each of the two long-distance runs with times of 12:25 in the 3,200 and 5:36 in the 1,600.

Sadey Hughey also qualified for regionals in both of the long-distance runs with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 (12:50.79) and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600 (5:50.01).

Riley Tanley placed fourth place in the girls discus (98 feet, 2 inches) to advance.

Venus

Venus' lone regional qualifier is September Crum, who placed second in the girls pole vault with a clearance of 8 feet.
