Alvernia defeats Lebanon Valley in double OT in men's basketball

Jan. 8—Malik Green had 19 points, including seven in the second overtime, and 21 rebounds to help Alvernia defeat Lebanon Valley 82-87 in a MAC Commonwealth game Saturday at Annville.

Green gave the Golden Wolves (5-1, 11-3) the lead for good at 84-81 on a three-point play with 4:48 left.

Jakob Kelly led Alvernia with 21 points. Robert Mullan had 19, Nigel Cooke 15 and Jalil Schenck 12.

Collin Jones led Lebanon Valley (2-3, 4-10) with 31 points and 19 rebounds.

Berks Catholic grad Luis Garcia had 23 points for the Dutchmen. He forced overtime on a jumper with five seconds left in regulation, then hit two foul shots with 29 seconds left in the first OT to tie it.

West Chester 72, Kutztown 57: Saturday at Keystone Arena, the Golden Bears (4-3, 4-8) shot just 29% in the first half in falling behind 36-26 on the way to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East loss to the Golden Rams (4-3, 9-4).

Kyree Generett led Kutztown with 12 points. Jalen Bryant had 11 and Reading High grad Wesley Butler eight.

Kyle McGee and Elijah Allen each scored 16 points to lead West Chester. Reading High grad Moro Osumanu had five points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes.

Stevenson 78, Albright 72: Saturday at Owings Mills, Md., the Mustangs (3-2. 9-5) outscored the Lions 30-13 over the first 11 minutes of the second half to expand a 32-27 halftime lead to 62-40 on the way to the MAC Commonwealth win.

Chris Kouemi and Zyon Grant each scored 14 points for Albright (2-4, 6-9). Robert Mangum had 13 points and Eric Chamberlain 11.

Cameron Smith led Stevenson with 24 points.

Lancaster Bible 104, Penn State Berks 75: Saturday at Lancaster, Josh Gardner scored 12 points, and Andre Ballard and Luke Collins each had 11 for the Nittany Lions (1-2, 3-7) in a United East loss to the Chargers (2-0, 5-6).

Penn State Berks lost 77-66 to Penn State Abington at home on Friday.

Women

Kutztown 73, West Chester 57: Saturday at Keystone Arena, Zara Zerman scored 19 points, Naia Pulliam had 12 and Casey Remolde 12 to lead the Golden Bears (4-3, 6-7) to the PSAC East win over the Golden Rams (4-3, 7-6).

KU outscored West Chester 47-30 in the second half.

Lebanon Valley 74, Alvernia 64: Saturday at Annville, the Dutchmen (3-2, 6-7) used a big third quarter, outscoring the Golden Wolves (5-1, 10-5) 30-11 to help earn the MAC Commonwealth win.

Alvernia led 34-27 at the half, but shot just 25% in the second half.

Kayla Williams led the Golden Wolves with 23 points. Tamia Wessels had 12, and Jordan Karmonick and Cathryn Kramer each 11.

Stevenson 64, Albright 51: Saturday at Owings Mills, Md., the Mustangs (4-1, 5-8) outscored the Lions 42-30 in the second half to earn the MAC Commonwealth victory.

Albright (3-3, 8-6) trailed 22-21 at the half.

Mackenzie Dover led the Lions with 15 points. Gabby Boggs had 13 rebounds.

Lancaster Bible 75, Penn State Berks 46: Saturday at Lancaster, no detail were available as the Nittany Lions (1-1, 1-7) fell to the Chargers (2-0, 7-1) in the United East.

Penn State Berks lost 65-59 to Penn State Abington at home on Friday.
