Alvernia men, women earn berths in ECAC Division III basketball championships

Feb. 27—The Alvernia men's and women's basketball teams have earned berths in the ECAC Division III Championships that begin Wednesday.

In the men's bracket, the Golden Wolves (19-8) were awarded the top overall seed in the seven-team event. They will play at seventh-seeded Juniata (17-10) Wednesday at a time to be announced. They were unable to host due to having three other teams at home that day.

The other quarterfinals are No. 5 Manhattanville at No. 4 Neumann, and No. 6 Allegheny at No. 3 Carnegie Mellon.

No. 2 Alfred received first-round bye and will host the semifinals Saturday and the final Sunday. Should it advance, Alvernia would play the Manhattanville-Neumann winner in the semis.
